The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences invites you to attend a guest lecture delivered by Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson (Mid Sweden University, Sweden), an internationally recognised expert in forest ecology and conservation biology.

Professor Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson’s research focuses on forest history, dynamics, and biodiversity, with particular emphasis on landscape ecology, including green infrastructure, species viability, and ecosystem services. His work is distinguished by its ability to connect fundamental research with practical application, thereby contributing to evidence-based nature conservation policy at both national and international levels.

In the guest lecture, “The Nature Restoration Regulation – Why, What and Where to Restore Forests”, Professor Bengt-Gunnar Jonsson will address the topical issue of forest restoration in Europe: why restoration is necessary, which forests should be prioritised for restoration, and how the most effective approaches can be identified within different ecological and policy contexts. The lecture will provide insight into the latest scientific findings and their significance for policymaking, particularly in the context of the European Union’s nature restoration initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for students, researchers, and professionals in the field to gain deeper insight into forest ecology and its role in sustainable development, as well as to engage in discussion with one of the leading experts in the field.

Date and time: 28 May at 16.00
Venue: Jelgavas iela 1, Room 109

We encourage all interested participants to take this opportunity to broaden their perspective and join the discussion on the future of forests.
