At the University of Latvia, the development of doctoral competences is planned in accordance with the European Competence Framework for Researchers (ResearchComp).

The ResearchComp framework consists of three main dimensions:

1st dimension – 7 competence areas:

  • Cognitive abilities
  • Conducting research
  • Research management
  • Management of research tools
  • Impact creation
  • Working with others
  • Self-management

2nd dimension – 39 competences

3rd dimension – 389 learning outcomes across four skill levels: basic, intermediate, advanced, and expert.

Each competence is defined by a descriptor and specified through learning outcomes for each of the skill levels.
