Application for scholarship must be submitted in the electronic system of the UL LUIS within 10 days from the beginning of registration week of the respectivesemester according to the calender of academic year. 
The documents confirming student's eligibility for the scholarship must be submitted to the secretary of the faculty.

Documents certifying that a doctoral student is eligible to apply for a scholarship in accordance with the criteria specified in Section 9 of the Regulations on the Awarding of State-Funded Scholarships at the University of Latvia must be submitted to the Doctoral School (Kalpaka Boulevard 4, Room 218).

The University of Latvia Foundation administers a number of Patron’s Scholarships, available to outstanding doctoral students and researchers, as well as to those with limited financial resources. Information about Patron’s Scholarships open to EU citizens and third-country nationals is available upon request.

 

Citizens of 39 eligible countries are welcome to apply for Latvian State scholarship for studies in Latvian higher education institutions.

 

The Doctoral School provides support for participation in the following activities:

  • international conferences, symposium, congresses, summer schools and similar events;

  • study and research mobility activities.

The maximum amount of support available to a doctoral student for covering participation fees, travel expenses, and subsistence costs, in accordance with supporting documents, is no more than EUR 500.00 per academic year.
If several authors have contributed to the preparation of the conference oral presentation, support for participation in the event may be granted to only one of the authors.

The doctoral student submits a completed application  with the electronic signatures of the scientific supervisor and the programme director to the Director of the Doctoral School by sending it to the email address doktorantura@lu.lv with the subject line “Application for Participation in an International Event”, no later than 15 working days before the date of the event.

The Doctoral School allocates support for participation in an international event where the results of the doctoral thesis are presented if:

  • the event organiser has accepted the doctoral student's participation in the conference, congress or similar scientific event; orthe doctoral student has received an invitation to participate in an international scientific event;

  • the support is approved, the doctoral student arranges a mission request in accordance with the procedures established by the UL.

     

The support is intended for the publication of a scientific article in internationally indexed publications, including open-access journals, in the relevant scientific field and/or for consultations at the UL Laboratory of Statistical Research and Data Analysis.

The amount of support available is no more than EUR 500.00 per academic year.

To receive support for the publication of a scientific article, the doctoral student submits a completed application with the electronic signatures of the scientific supervisor and the study programme director to the Director of the Doctoral School by sending it to the email address doktorantura@lu.lv with the subject line “Application for Support for the Publication of a Scientific Article”.

To receive support for Consultations, the doctoral student applies via the Doctoral School website doktorantura.lu.lv by completing the application form. A Doctoral School staff member verifies the availability of funding and informs the doctoral student within 5 working days.

The Doctoral School and the UL Laboratory of Statistical Research and Data Analysis cooperate in the planning and provision of support consultations.

If support for Consultations is approved, the Doctoral School covers the costs of the services provided by the UL Laboratory of Statistical Research and Data Analysis.

When allocating support for the publication of scientific articles, the Doctoral School evaluates the following criteria:

  • the significance of the scientific publication and the database;
  • confirmation of the publication of the scientific article;
  • the amount of co-financing provided by the structural unit.
 

The support is intended for the layout, printing, and binding of the doctoral thesis and summary of one person—the candidate for the scientific degree.

The amount of support available to one person for the layout, printing, and binding of the doctoral thesis and summary, in accordance with supporting documents, is no more than EUR 300.00.

To receive the support, the candidate submits a completed application, signed with a secure electronic signature, to the Director of the Doctoral School no later than 10 working days after the meeting of the promotion council, by sending it to the email address doktorantura@lu.lv with the subject line “Application for Support for Printing and Binding the Doctoral Thesis and Summary”.

A Doctoral School staff member verifies the status of the candidate and approves or rejects the payment within 5 working days.
