The webinar “Avoiding Predatory Journals and Publishers” is intended for doctoral candidates and researchers of the University of Latvia (UL) in order to develop an understanding of predatory journals and their publishers, as well as to improve the skills necessary to recognize and avoid them.

During the webinar, participants will gain knowledge about the definitions of predatory journals and publishers, their historical development, and the role and relevance of open access in contemporary scholarly communication. The session will analyse the main characteristics of predatory journals and publishers and introduce practical resources and approaches for evaluating journals and publishers. Participants will also be provided with an overview of fraudulent practices such as fake conferences.

The webinar will be led by Information Specialist of the UL Library Margarita Karule.
