In order to introduce interested participants to current developments in doctoral studies at the University of Latvia (UL) and the planned support measures for doctoral candidates, the UL Doctoral School is launching a monthly informational webinar series “30 Minutes in UL Doctoral Studies.” The first webinar will take place on the MS Teams platform on 10 February 2025 from 16.00 to 16.30.

During the webinar, questions will be answered by representatives of the UL Doctoral School — Director of the UL Doctoral School Prof. Zanda Rubene, Leading Expert Gunta Kalvāne, and Senior Expert Ilze Danuseviča.

As noted by the Director of the UL Doctoral School, Prof. Zanda Rubene, on 14 March 2024 the Saeima adopted amendments to the Law on Higher Education Institutions and related amendments to the Law on Scientific Activity, which provide for the introduction of a new doctoral studies model in Latvia:
“The UL Doctoral School has been established with the aim of implementing this model and creating an environment that promotes collaboration between emerging and experienced researchers, while also ensuring the well-being of doctoral candidates. Even necessary and important changes bring a range of challenges, often accompanied by uncertainty; therefore, we are launching this informational webinar series, where any interested participant will be able to find answers to their questions by submitting them either on the virtual platform or during the webinar.”

Anyone interested is invited to participate in the webinar — both those who are only considering the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies and those who have already started their studies or are currently on a study break.

During the webinar, Director of the UL Doctoral School Prof. Zanda Rubene will introduce the functions and responsibilities of the UL Doctoral School, while Leading Expert Gunta Kalvāne will provide a brief overview of the activities carried out during the autumn semester and outline future plans. Dr. Daniela Godiņa will introduce the “Nucleate Baltics” network for collaboration in the field of biotechnology innovation, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Interested participants are invited to submit their questions via the Padlet virtual platform, as well as during the webinar itself. In case of technical difficulties, please contact: gunta.kalvane@lu.lv.
